The population of La Paz is estimated at 160,000. It reminds one of a typical city in southern France along the Mediteranean coast. A wide boulevard for walking and/or driving, with the beach on one side and open-air restaurants on the other. The boulevard extends for miles.
La Paz is the center of some of the world's best deep sea fishing. For many miles in either direction a great variety of game fish can be caught. Great scuba diving and snorkeling can be found in the area too, and the water is warm. It has an international airport and is the terminus for Baja bus lines. Ferries run from here to the Mexican mainland, and this link makes La Paz the most accessible Baja city from mainland Mexico. This results in a wide selection of goods in the stores, and good prices.
